A screenshot from the Google Play store. The new Pixel Ambient Services app, which will come preinstalled on Google's latest flagships, includes the feature -- though it's off by default. You'll need to enable it in the Do Not Disturb settings before it starts checking to see if you're driving. The app says it uses a combination of Bluetooth and device motion to tell, presumably by checking whether your phone's accelerometers are bouncing around and if your phone's Bluetooth radio sees opportunities to connect to Bluetooth-enabled cars.
Note the app is exclusive to the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL for now -- you can't install it on earlier Pixel devices (we checked) and it's not part of a broader Android release that phonemakers can add to their new devices, either, But don't rule that out: It's CNET's understanding that Google's collecting feedback before deciding whether to roll out the feature more broadly, Like Google Lens, another feature that'll be exclusive to Pixel at launch, it may arrive on other devices soon, The feature was uphill battle iphone case originally reported by Android Police..
Leung says the phones currently come with an 18-watt USB-C PD charger, meaning you'd have to find a charger that specifically advertises a 27W USB-C Power Delivery charging mode (look for both "PD" and "9V/3A") to take advantage of faster speeds. I don't know if I'd run out and do that quite yet, though, because Leung doesn't say how much faster 27W charging might actually be. Google advertises that the included power adapter already provides 7 hours of battery life after just 15 minutes of charging, which might be fast enough for you, anyway.
Update, 1:13 p.m, PT: The answer is: not faster at all, Google has just pointed us to an update from Leung, who says he was wrong about 27W charging, The USB port is capable, but it sounds like the charging circuitry or battery are not, The new Pixel phones will not charge faster than they do with the included adapter, We've corrected small portions of this story, Sure, the new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL don't have headphone jacks, But their USB-C charging and data uphill battle iphone case port might be more versatile than most..
Jony Ive at the 2017 New Yorker TechFest in New York City. "Why?" David Remnick, the magazine's editor, asked him onstage. "Because they felt horrible in the hand, they didn't work, they looked like crap? What was it?""I think all of that," he responded in his iconic, smooth British accent, made famous by his narrations of Apple sizzle reel videos, as the audience laughed. "They were poorly made .. to me they testified to convenience and a lack of ambition. I just find it hard not to take affront to that. I think we're important and we deserve at least a sincere effort."Ive helped design some of Apple's best-known products including the iPod, iPhone and iPad, all devices that helped Apple drag itself from the verge of bankruptcy to becoming the highest-valued publicly traded company in the world. He spoke for half an hour one-on-one with Remnick, offering details about his work with Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs, what it's like to form new ideas and the impact the iPhone has had on people's lives.
